If you can remember back to the Myspace days, I would have an ongoing post on this blog of "Myspace ad of the week". They were always super weird, uncomfortable, and confusing. I thought that post would never come back with Myspace being dead and Facebook being "clean" of ads......but it has! I found this ad on Facebook today.....ummm WTF is that a picture of?!!?!? Liz's Birthday

Saturday was my beautiful friend, Liz's bday. We went to Shatto 39 Lanes in Korea town followed by Palihouse (R.I.P. Dan+Cam spinning there). I used our Yashica camera for this photo set and I'm still mad at myself for forgetting to bring it into Palihouse. Shatto 39 Lanes was awesome because it had an old school feel to it + a bar (win). I tried to bowl in my Litas but one of the employees got bummed and so did my boyfriend. Apparently the bowling shoes did nothing because I think my ending score was a 23. Double sad face. The night continued with tres de leche cake and drinks + good music @ Palihouse. :)

Thread Show LA

This weekend was the Thread show in LA. I was invited to attend Friday's closed event to view the show before the public and I must say it surpassed my expectations. I had never been to a Thread show before and I had no idea what to expect. I went in curious and came out wishing I had bought everything in the place. I was greeted by the lovely Danielle and further welcomed by all the down to earth, genuinely nice people in the booths.

My purchases were as follows (picture above): 2 rings from Dennis Kaping out of San Diego, a pair of vintage Burberry sunglasses from the 70s, and a pair of vintage 90s black + tortoise deadstock sunglasses, both from Albert who owns Replay vintage in Silverlake. I'm not joking, I would have had 4 times that but with Christmas coming...it's a little tight. I also partook in a complimentary massage by Chiropractique, free wine tasting and took a photobooth pic by No Subject Los Angeles (picture above, the bf looks awesome btw). I wanted to get my nails done by Dipped Nails but it was a little hectic. There was also open bar and giftbags. :) Now lets get to the show....

The first booth I approached and was warmly welcomed into was Kathryn McCarron and Guevarra Arcega's

booth. The two are good friends that have two separate, exceptional lines and are now venturing into collaborating. Guevarra's line has a romantic, elegant vibe while Kathryns has an edgy, modern feel both complimenting each others in the best of ways. At the show I fell in love with Guevarra's Tan lace dress (shown above on the rack), the blazer shown above, and Kathryns black long sleeve knit dress.

I also got to see the product of their collaboration which is a fabulous new shoe (pictured above) that will be out in January . Be on the lookout, I know i want them.

Dennis Kaping's booth was next in line. I was contemplating not even stopping because I saw rings and I knew I would want them all. All of them sterling silver, some had stones on them and some were simply silver but all of them were GORGEOUS. I'm really partial to amber so I was drooling over the ones pictured above. I wish I could have bought more but I can say that I couldn't be happier with my purchases. His website is in the works and should be up soon. Awesome guy and beautiful products.

We also passed by this remarkable vintage section, and you KNOW I was over there faster than you could say vintage. This woman had just started selling her private collection that has accumulated over the years, 3 weeks prior and I could not have been more envious of her inventory. Vintage furs, hats, sequins, jewelry even FURNITURE! She was so sweet and I really hope she got good sales this weekend.

Albert was up next with his ridiculous vintage sunglasses collection. Thread was killing me softly I swear. We must have spent a good half hour at his table trying on numerous sunglasses all styles and eras.

I really wanted these Lanvin's from the 70s (pictured above) especially after all this hype with his H&M collab but I stuck with the green Burberry's (also pictured above). He was so rad and you could tell he really loved what he did which is always lovely to see. He has a store in Silverlake called Replay Vintage so check it out.

Straight from the South of France is a wonderful, family owned jewelry line with much meaning and superior quality. Lou Lou Bijoux is the sole distributor bringing elegant unique jewelry to the US. At Thread I got to view the most current collection, BRIN D'AMOUR which translates to "piece of love" and I fell in love. I was partial to the Biscuit necklace and with the Bolt bracelet (which i apologize there is no pictures of). All of their items have a saying on them or meaning behind them which is what's so charming about the line. Another thing that was admirable about Lou Lou Bijoux is it's a friend helping out a friend with great confidence in the product.

There were a lot of jewelry booths at Thread and I wasn't mad at it. A girl can never have too much of shoes and jewelry I always say. The other jewelry booth that stood out to me was Tiffany Kunz's. I was already impressed with the designs but when she told me her and her assistant make all of it in house I was blown away. All of her pieces besides 1, are one of a kind which is truly hard to come by. She was showing me her AMAZING Valentines day collection, Cadence, in which you give her the sound byte of your choice and she makes it into a necklace or earrings. The sound byte can be anything from a sentence someone says to a song, and its all on your neck or ears. Unquestionably creative. I'm upset I don't have a picture of it but I'm sure it will be up on her site early next year.

To conclude our fun little trip to Thread was Turtle Scarf. Not only is the name cute and the logo even cuter, the product is genious. Turtle Scarf = scarf + hood + turtleneck. It'll keep you warm, step up your accessory game and give you an extra layering piece as well. Fun! I was partial to the buffalo plaid one but sadly it didn't have a hood. :( Really cute idea and fun products.

That pretty much concludes my Thread Show experience. I loved hearing everyone's stories and seeing the breathtaking amount of talent that filled the hidden donwntown LA wharehouse. I thoroughly enjoyed myself and hope to attend next year. I hope all my winners had a fabulous time and thanks to everyone for participating in The Penelope Times x Thread contest. :)

The more I do these outfit posts the more I realize that my go-to item is a vintage tee. I think I like the mix of dirty and clean if that makes sense. ANYWAY, I've been waiting for a month for these puppies (shoes) and I finally got them! I could not be happier! They are knock offs of many o' brands and from Korea. To be honest, I like them better then the real ones (Jeffery Campbells, Alexander Wang, Giuseppe Zanotti etc). Gasp! I know its a crime, but these have the best silhouette in my opinion. Anyway, me and the BF went out for some Pho and as you all know, I wasn't feeling well so I threw this simple, comfy outfit on. I love this shirt, it's from my grandpa's closet and its AMAZING. Although I'm not Italian I like to rep it. The leggings are from a local dance shop, which I like to go for my leggings because they are more durable yet still reasonably priced ($20). Under the tank is a lace bra from Urban. I love these because they're elegant and sexy all in one not to mention they look great under anything see through or with exaggerated cuts. As for the accessories, well you can guess where they're from. Be ready to see these shoes every week because I want to wear them with EVERYTHING!

Fall Transition

It's definitely taken it's time to get hot in LA. I haven't been wanting summer to end but I finally started craving fall yesterday when me and the bf went to H&M and I was surrounded by long baggy fall clothing. siiigh. Now its ridiculously hot and I'm sick and all I want is cold weather. Anyway, this is one of my fall transition outfits. Lightweight boyfriend stripped boyfriend button up from Goodwill (always), lightweight low rise jean pants cuffed at the bottom from Urban Outfitters, and my Steve Madden ankle booties. All of these items have great coverage for when it cools down, but are lighter weight if it stays hot. Perfect for that awkward in between seasons time. Whats your favorite fall transition outfit?

I was planning on wearing this out on Saturday but as previously stated I was sick. So here's some fun pictures for your enjoyment. These shorts (Urban Outfitters) are MAD short but I can't help but wear them. The color, fit and style are amazing and I'll sacrifice looking like a s.l.u.t. to wear them once in a while. I got this blouse at Goodwill (of course) and have been dying to wear it. I love the colors, style, the fact that its see through so you can wear a lace bra underneath, and the sleeves. I paired it with a vintage belt and these semi-outdated-sex and the city-Dior-knockoffs-that-I-still-like-wearing, shoes from Asos. I'm also really into buns in general, ask Shurie, but I REALLY love buns on the top of your head. Its so stylish for something so simple. Anyway maybe I'll wear this outfit out one day...siiigh.

Back in May our friend Nick had his annual pool party/bday party and our dear friend Kevintook some video. He made a little montage of the footage and all of us make a little appearance in it. I also wanted to use this as an outfit post because I love this outfit. I’m wearing a 90s inspired floral skirt from Zara, black tank, flower in my hair from H&m, and glads by Jeffery Campbell (not shown). Anyway, its random and funny, enjoy!

Last night Supra/Krew had a “party” for this reality show and me and the bf went. It was quite hilarious because the crowd was a CRAZY mix of people from opposite sides of the spectrum and those cameras were hounding the star of the show like they were going to miss something. It was cool to meet all the bf’s coworkers, all amazing people, open bar and free food. We didn’t stay very long but it was still fun. This is my favorite outfit right now I think I’ve worn it at least 5 times to different things including last night. I got this AMAZING white blouse from Goodwill. The volume and drape are magnificent. I paired it with these infamous shorts that I’ve worn before (also a fave) and of course my FAVE shoes, the Jessica Simpson Dany platforms. We didn’t end up making it to Mozza like I had planned but I’m hoping to catch it this weekend. Blackboard Eats had a deal going yesterday for 30% off take out and I want to take advantage of that ho. In due time.

I stumbled upon these pictures of some sort of cat fashion show/costume dress up party. ANY animal that is dressed in a costume is just breath taking. I don't know if anyone else besides my friend Mike shares this passion with me but something takes over me when I see animals in costumes. I cant control my amazement/laughter. ANYWAY these are the highlight, my favorite is the toupee. A CAT IS WEARING A TOUPEE AND ITS OK CAUSE HES BALD! Genius. Enjoy.

A few days ago I shot with Shurie for the store. I love shooting with her because we just talk and laugh and it takes no time at all to bang out the pics. Shes da best. ANYWAY I had her shoot a few shots of my outfit for the day. Although summer is coming down to its last few weeks, I’m trying to get out all my summer outfits while i can. I got this skirt at Zara and I think its perfect for summer. The print and colors are great and its a great fit as well. I like pairing elegant items with older vintage items because I like the contrast. I wore a (another favorite of course) vintage yellow tank that I got at American Vintage on Melrose a long time ago and goes with pretty much anything, a cute chambray hat I got from the Urban Outfitters sale section (score), my Steve Madden platforms, and of course, accessories. I don’t know about you guys but if I like a set of jewelry I’ll pair it with all my outfits, which is why all these jewlery items look familiar. I’m also excited because you can really see my new hair in these pictures (the light tips) and I’m pretty obsessed with it. BTW these Sephora x OPI stick on nailsare STILL going strong! it’s been almost 3 weeks! love em. Anyway, happy Thursday!

Guinness Milkshake.
Guinness Milkshake at 25 Degrees in the Hollywood Roosevelt
From: 25 Degrees
Makes: 1 drink

3 jumbo scoops of premium vanilla ice cream
3 ounces chilled Guinness beer
2 ounces chocolate syrup

1. Add the beer and chocolate syrup to the ice cream.

2. Mix just until blended; the mixture should be very thick.

3. Drizzle inside of a glass with chocolate syrup and pour shake in.

Token Irlandese (The Token Irishman)
From: Michael Shearin of Drago Centro
Makes: 1 drink

2 ounces Jameson Irish whiskey
3 drops Fee Brothers Mint Bitters
5-6 springs of fresh mint
1/2 ounce fresh lemon juice
1/2 ounce simple syrup
Splash of soda water

1. Muddle the mint with simple syrup.

2. Add the rest of the ingredients, shake and strain over ice in an old fashioned glass.

3. Add splash of soda water and garnish with mint sprig.

happy saturday!

ugh i love saturdays cause christians home and we have the whole day to do whatever we want.

we woke up this moring and i made us some oatmeal then we went to get mani's and pedi's, then we went to the cucakery (posted below) and let me tell you they are delish! the pink velvet is devinneeeee.(actual picture below) (the place is way cuter in person and ill prolly be there everyday.

after this we ate at M cafe off melrose .......sooo good. that is also my new favorite place they have all organic and vegan/vegetarian food, but then they have fish as well so everyones happy. super healthy and super yummy. christian enjoyed it as well. ( http://www.mcafedechaya.com/ )

then we went to turntable lab to get him a mixer. fairfax makes me barf with all the street wear kids....actually thats mean i was just overwhelmed.

then we came home and went to THE BRAND NEW DOG PARK IN SIMI VALLEY!!!!!!!!

thats right folks. guesss whos the happiest kid in the world! (besides the dogs) MEE!!! its so nice up there..its way up in the hills where its quiet and peaceful and the dogs loved it. :)

anyway, i think my best friends gonna come out here and were gonna get some drinks then off the brick and ronys bday! hope everyone has a good night!

let me just tell u i am never gonna be a stylist. it is seriously the most stressful job on the planet. i dont know why people want to do that for a living. weve seriously been working 15 hour days, from 9-11 at night and all it consists of is driving, finding parking, walking, shopping, paperwork, drive again, go somewhere else etc etc. and its not just down the street driving its like la, to hollywood, to santa monica to burbank then after this all i have to drive home 20 mins. ugh.

on top of this having to worry about 5 looks, shoes and accessories to match, and if hell be happy. wow. its kind of indescribable how exhausting it is.

on the contrary, its been alot of fun, me and preston work really well together and its been amazing to feel productive and useful. AAANNNDD my new car gets AMAZING GAS MILEAGE so we never have to fill up. ahaha.

tomorrows the last fitting (which is greaattt haha), and he really likes everything weve been able to put together so far so thats always gratifying. aside from that hes a really nice guy and fun to hang out with.

highlights of the whole project:
-eating at amazing places
-trying sprinkles cupcakes and becoming a believer
-meeting cool people
- hanging out with preston
-jordans crazy assistant that i swear is related to the people on the guido youtube video.
-being able to pack everything up in/ out of the car in record breaking time.....not really just fast for me.
-a free scarf
-getting injuries from walking
-jordan being scared of color while me and preston are wearing yellow and purple
- finding out that cahuenga is the worst place to put a shopping strip because THE CREEPIEST people hang out there and go into stores, and dance, or ask where they can find credit cards

and lastly
-me humming "the right stuff" and jordan saying "alright get it out of ur system" and proceeding to sing us "the right stuff"

in other news, we might style the miley cyrus dancers for her tour but that is definitely pending, annnnnd im going to malaysia in may for another lee hom tour date! wooo! im stoked cause i have a job lined up now so i feel useful again! yay me!

i tried this tonight and it came out amazing. i made it up myself! :) so proud.

1 bunch green kale chopped
1 bunch dino kale chopped
1 mango chopped in bite size pieces
1-2 yellow onion chopped
2 cloves garlic chopped

sauce:
1/4 cup soy sauce
1/4 cup olive oil
1 tsp dijon mustard
1 tsp nutmeg
1 tsp garlic powder
1 tbsp seasame seed oil
salt
pepper
(add more of any of this to your tasting)

chop up kale , and steam until its a little wilted but still got a bite. meanwhile (or even before hand) in a seperate pan, brown the onions and mangos, add garlic after theyre browned/tender. now add the cooked kale, add the sauce (a little at a time, i prolly used less than half it only needs a little) mix and serve!

so yummy!

-valentines day was scary/fun. we got consultations by moe lam at the healing tree. (hes an herbologist) he said im basically anemic, my liver is inflamed and i might have a sinus infection. so im taking a bagillion herbs right now hahaha. so far i can feel some of them working which is awesome. christian got herbs for his asthma, heartburn, allergies, and liver also. i guess he has alot of mucus in his lungs so thats affection alot of those things. anyway ill keep u updated after i take them. ive been getting a little naucious when i take them 3 times a day so im only doing 2 for now.

-for dinner we went to primitvo in venice. it was sooo cute, it had balloons covering the ceiling and we got complementary wine and cheese when we first sat down. the food was overall pretty good, nothing amazing (which i actually heard otehr people saying also) and the portions were waaaay too big for a four course meal. but i would love to go back and have dinner there. we came home and watched slum dog millionaire which was reaaaaallly good.

in other news im getting a new car soon i think because mine went to shit. my options are civic coupe or the matrix. im leaning more twards the civic tho. well seee.

today we took the dogs to the beach for their first time. it was THE CUTEST THING EVER!! pico loved the water, fafi was scared at first but then as i eased her into it and she wanted to have fun too. hershy was kinda over it. then we layed our blanket down and found a pole to put them on, and ate our sandwiches. we layed down for a while and listened to the waves while the dogs ate sand. it was such a nice day! i want to go back i forgot how much i like the beach.

after we came home, showered washed the dogs cause they smelled like fish, and ate leftovers.

after we watched gonzo, we rated it 4 stars on netflix. i highly recommend.

now im making expired mac n cheese and im scared. i also feel guilty for eating it. i havent eaten the kraft delux mac n cheese in like a year. eek. lets hope i dont get food poisoning.

oh man so i got back from macau yesterday. i was SO JET LAGGED today! i seriously feel like today was a dream and when i was living it i was so clumsy and disoriented. it was actually funny tho.

macau was fun! it sucked at first cause we got no per diem but we got everything figured out and its fine now. we all got to get to know each other better, people opened up and we just had a great time together.

the venitian in macau is HUGE!!! its the largest casino in the world and 2nd largest structure (the largest is a factory)

they had 4 "rivers" for the gondola rides.

the show was so much fun and after we were attacked by fans and took 509302890 pictures. then we got escorted to our elevators by security. this was followed by a bomb buffet and drinks at the lounge after.

macau is super laid back, asian, but fun. no one walks around wasted or is loud its kinda funny.

but next weekend is vegas! wooooo! thats a very brief summery but my pictures are on my space so u can check em there.

lets hope im awake tomorrow! sheesh!

SAN PEDRO, Calif. (KABC) -- Large numbers of sick, injured and starving brown pelicans have turned up along the Southern California coast.

The International Bird Rescue Research Center in San Pedro rescued 40 birds in December and another 25 birds since Jan. 1. Workers say the ailing pelicans are being found in unusual places.

"We're seeing them come in thin and little bit disoriented, a lot of times very cold," said Erica Lander from the IBRRC. "So we're taking them in and caring for them."

In 2008, the bird sanctuary took in over 300 sick pelicans, about 100 more than they had in 2007. There was a "baby boom" of pelicans last fall, which increased their patient load. But experts are unsure why more birds are getting sick now.

Workers say it costs between $500 and $1,000 to rehabilitate a sick pelican.

"It gets very costly, especially when we have so many coming in at one time," said Lander.

As a non-profit organization, funds are running thin for the IBRRC. It's now turning to the public to help the endangered brown pelicans. Bird lovers can adopt a pelican for $200 or become a pelican partner for $500. The IBRRC also has a classroom partnership for $300, where a whole class can raise the money to sponsor a pelican.

For nearly 40 years brown pelicans have been endangered species. The number of birds turning up shows the population is improving and workers want to make sure they survive.

almost ready for macau tomorrow! i think ive finally grasped the concept of NOT over packing. and usually its not the clothes i over pack but the carry on. but im actually really excited this time. i needed that break for a month or so, it was getting to be tiring.

i have a good airline so im stoked and they FINALLY have tvs, well i hope the one we go on does and its not some janky 80s version.

i was really proud of myself tonight cause i totally lived out my new years resolution (one of them) and instead of ordering in (which i totally wanted to do) i looked in the fridge and made dinner happen. i made stuffed peppers with brown rice, corn, black beans, feta, and tomatoes tossed with olive oil, lemon juice, oregano, salt and pepper. along side was garlic and olive oil roasted cauliflower. wooo! i was so happy that the fridge is getting empty and we actually USED all the food to get to this point. so i guess i lived out 2 more of my new years resolution cause i made food in the form of the new american plate AND i cooked instead of ordering in.

so ive been super into tea lately since ginette took me to the healing tree. and its crazy how much it benifets your health. ive been into the cream earl grey black tea and i kinda got the impression that black tea isnt AMAZING for you but apparently it is! how exciting! heres a little bit of info for ya

Black Tea Saves arteries. Drinking black tea helps prevent deadly clogging of arteries and reverses poor arterial functioning that can trigger heart attacks and strokes. In arecent test, Joseph Vita, M.D., of the Boston University School of Medicine, had heart patients drink either plain water or four cups of black tea daily. In a month, impaired blood vessel functioning (a risk factor for heart attack and strokes) improved about 50% in the black tea drinkers.

so me and jessica went to the healing tree yesterday. fell in love all over again (with the healing tree not with each other), bought tea etc. we came back and went to jerrys deli with christian and his sister and christian chico met us there.

jessica goes to order,

jessica: i want the club and can i get a cup of soup with that?
waiter: no ull have to pay extra cause we cant substitute.
jessica: ok can i get fries then
waiter: it only comes with cole slaw and beans.
jessica: okkkk.....can i get a turkey burger with fries then?
waiter: well you can only do that with the sandwhiches on the opposite page.
jessica: okkk i guess ill just get the club?

so then he gives christian chico his matzo ball soup with out the mazto ball...gives it to him in an extra bowl. i ask for an extra matzo ball for my soup and he says "yah, ill get you an extra matzo ball" with a smile, jessica cringes. he definitely charges me for it.

when we were all done he comes back and says "alright heres the bill everyone i can only do a 2 card minimum thank u"

were like does this guy break ANY rules? he does what he is TOLD.

other than that we saw the lady with the pink corvette who were convinced is jewish or hangs out in jewish delis. and a porn star i forgot her name but apparently she looked haggard.

we came back to our house for tea and the movie man on wire which i recommend!

new years is too hyped. ive had like 2 good new years that i can remember of all my years of going out on new years. one was in 10th grade and the other was me and christians first new years where we went to an apartment complex filled with lofts and they were all open to everyone , as well as the courtyard in the middle of all of them, and it was one big party. but thats it! every year im disappointed.

my theory is....no one has to work the next day so its oversaturated with people no matter where u go. its like any other party every other day of the year just crowded, filled with badly dressed people, way too much sequins (which im guilty of) , and blazers.

so everyone always expects something great cause its like "the biggest party of the year" but its like any other party. how much bigger can a party get. idk if ive just been to my fare share of parties so its the same to me or what.

so anyway with that being said me and christian decided that next year were gonna get a cabin with our friends, cook a big dinner, and have a good time. done. no crowds, no driving, no stupid people. woo!

anyway. last night was fun cause we def made it fun with our kazoo's and noise makers. when we got there they werent letting anyone else in. russ walks up and they wont let him in, even tho hes the paid entertainment. so basically we end up getting escorted through the side of the hotel, through the kitchen, and through the lobby, got the wrist bands and got in. it was semi madness.

we had a dope (and fast) waiter named marty that seemed disappointed with our over 20% tip. we hugged at 12 cause he was taking our orders , so i kissed christian, kissed lacy on the cheek and gave marty a hug. basically "thanks for getting me drunk happy new years! and were right here together" kind of hug.

before marty we were trying to get a drink and this girl was shouting "BERNEASE! BERNEASE!" and i started laughing because u dont hear someone shouting that name very often. so her yelling trailed off, then all of a sudden, in our ear, "BERNEASE!!!!!" i was like omg! and then shes like "happy birthday!" i was dying.

there were asian girls that were hitting on christian and after i kissed him they said something along the lines of "u totally had him first" so then they made out with hassan and took pictures with russ. oh and then fell on their back.

there was a lady having her friend take pictures of her while she posed and looked away in the distance.

me and hassan have an invention thats gonna take off in 09. the eagle has landed.

at 1am they had to bring the party into the lobby because the neighbors complained. (i hate people) so royal rumble spun in the lobby with a computer speaker. that was pointless.

we all went to cafe 101 , kevin got abandoned by russ and me and lacy got BOMB vegetable soup. and i don't just mean bomb.... i mean like B-O-M-B. i was like thinking about it all day today. but the best part was when i ordered it ...it went like this

chanelle: ill have the vegetable soup
waitress: did i say cream of mushroom? i meant vegetable soup.
chanelle:.....?.......i know i want the vegetable soup.

this was followed by kevin asking if the turkey burger was ground turkey, which we all explained to him before he ordered that is in ground turkey and thats what a turkey burger is. so after he ordered it and the waitress looked at him weird he said "why did u guys let me ask that? was that stupid?" and were like we tried to tell u but u didnt listen!

we also saw ryan gossling that was fun. skeet joined us. 2 nights in a row! craze!

overall it was a good time. i hope everyone was safe and had a good time! see ya in 09!

my resolution this year is to blog more,cook more and eat in the form on the new american plate

i got this book for christmas and i LOVE IT. i basically says ur plate should consist of 2/3ds veggies, fruits and grains and the other 1/3d should be protien. (mostly fish, if not then chicken or turkey). it also shows new ways to make sauces out of veggies and fruits to liven up ur plate, and also how to spice up salads and make ur own dressing. its an awesome book. ive been testing it out and it works well! its written by the american cancer association i believe, and if not written they had a huge part to do with it! hahaha.

this is my favorite new kids tv show...its called ni hao kai lan and its exactly like dora the exporer but chinese!!! so awesome! and theyre all so cute!!!
